How to increase the lifespan of yacht batteries
Generally, yacht batteries require no maintenance, but they do have a lifespan. Below, we introduce some ways to extend the lifespan and effectiveness of yacht batteries for yacht enthusiasts. Keep the battery fully charged. This can prolong the battery's lifespan; check the battery at least every 30 days; regularly clean the battery terminals and wiring harness. Check that the battery cables are securely connected to the terminals. Tighten by hand, then use a wrench to tighten the terminal nut another 1/4 turn. Check the electrolyte level of each battery in the battery bank; the electrolyte level should be above the marked line. If the level is below the mark
Generally, yacht batteries require no maintenance, but they do have a limited lifespan. Below, we'll introduce some tips for extending the lifespan and performance of your yacht's batteries.
Keep the battery fully charged. This helps prolong its lifespan.
Check the battery at least every 30 days.
Regularly clean the battery terminals and wiring harness.
Check that the battery cables are securely connected to the terminals. Tighten by hand, then use a wrench to tighten the terminal nuts another 1/4 turn.
Check the electrolyte level in each battery of the battery bank. The electrolyte level should be above the marked line. If the level is below the line, add distilled water until the electrolyte reaches the proper level. Be careful not to overfill and cause spillage.
When charging for extended periods, place the battery in a cool, dry place.
Check the battery charge every three months using a hydrometer or voltmeter.
If the specific gravity is below 1.225 or the voltage is below 12.4, the battery needs charging.
